Conference and Vendor Fair a Huge Success!

General Meeting
Meeting hosts for the October 8th meeting included Dawn Hansen and Roberta Lijewski, (left) members of Baltimore-Chesapeake Bay Point of Care Coordinators.

Dawn and Roberta greeted more than 100 people turned out for a full day of discussion on point-of-care informatics as well as a vendor fair at the meeting held at the Mt.  Washington Conference Center in Baltimore.


Opening Remarks

Dr. William Clarke, Director of Point-of-Care Testing, Johns Hopkins Hospital Chair-Elect of Capital Section, AACC opened the meeting, and thanked the Baltimore-Chesapeake Bay Point-of-Care Coordinators and The Capital Section The Critical and Point of Care Testing Division American Association of Clinical Chemistry for their efforts in putting the meeting together and their sponsorship..


The Use of Technology in Education

Debra Case-Cromer, RN, MS, Coordinator for Education, Department of Nursing, The Johns Hopkins Hospital, opened the meeting with Use of Technology in Education (3.76MB). She was supported by An Introduction to HealthStream Learning.


The History of POC Informatics

Steven Valorz from Medical Automation Systems then spoke on the Past, Present and Future of POC Informatics (3.19MB) followed by technical presentations from HemoCue and Telcor.

A spectacular buffet lunch closed out the morning session.


Improving Regulatory Compliance with Informatics

Chris Fetters from NOVA Biomedical began the afternoon session with a presentation on Improving Regulatory Compliance with Informatics.

Chris was followed by technical presentations from Abbott Point of Care and Roche Diagnostics. 


Using Data to Reduce Errors

James H. Nichols, Ph.D., DABCC, FACB Director, Clinical Chemistry, Baystate Medical Center closed out the day with Informatics: Using Data to Reduce Errors, Standardize Practice and Improve Patient Outcomes (2.09MB).
