Minutes from our last meeting held on February 18, 2004 at Overlook Hospital

Introduction

Mohamed Abd-Rabouh welcomed members and vendors to the Third meeting of the New Jersey Point of Care.

He thanked Anjali Pawar and her colleagues from Overlook for hosting our members and guests. Mohamed also informed the group that Donna Melee a founding member has relocated to Texas. Anjali has joined the core group.

Sponsor

Roche Diagnostics

Presentation

Presented by Christopher Fetters – Vice Chairman of Nextivity entitled "POC Billing: Yes You Can".

Christopher addressed the misconception that Point of Care tests must be included in the room charge. He references CLIA and Medicare rulings that state, “Point of Care testing is laboratory testing no matter who performs the test.” A copy of this presentation can be found at: www.nextivity.net.

Group Discussion

Christopher facilitated a discussion focusing on the structure of our organization and our future plans. Questions that should be considered include, whether we should incorporate? If vendors should sponsor the meeting, and should they display and speak about their products. Should we extend an invitation beyond the borders of the State.

The folks from UMDNJ will explore the possibility of having all the future meeting at their facility in Piscataway as this was considered the most central location. They also have free and ample parking. It was decided that we will have four meetings per year in the first week of the March, June, September and December. Suggestions for future topics include:

  • CAP regulations.

  • Alternate methodologies

  • Physician performed test.

  • Data management

  • Electronic records

  • User training

  • QC – statistics

  • QA/QI

  • Portland protocol

  • JCAHO

  • NJ DOH

  • Product validation

Next Meeting

June 9, 2004 at UMDNJ in Piscataway. Mohamed and Aleem are responsible for the final arrangements.
