Introduction

Mohamed Abd-Rabouh welcomed members and vendors to the second meeting of the  New Jersey Point of Care. Cindy Comerford and Donna Melee of Raritan Bay Medical Center did a terrific job in providing the accommodations.

Presentation

 

A presentation by Lifescan’s Rick Lebo entitled "Sources of Variation in POCT"  included a section on Alternate Site Testing (AST) for glucose meters and a Troubleshooting Quiz for both hospital and consumer.

Provided by Andrew Novelli of Johnson & Johnson Home Care Division.

 

Group Discussion

 

How to communicate with the nurses about the need for Quality Control and its purposes. Suggestion included

  • Monthly meetings with the nurse educator

  • Open door policy

  • Involvement in the education process

  • Report findings to the QA director

  • Having a presence at Nurse Education Day

  • Using regulatory agencies as the ultimate tool.

Group decided that NJ POCC meetings should occur quarterly
