January 10 Meeting Minutes...

... from the initial Ohio POC Group Meeting held Thursday January 10, 2002 in Dayton at the Good Samaritan North Health Center.  

A presentation on POCT Billing was given by Chris Fetters, President and Founder of Nextivity.   Lunch was provided by Roche Diagnostics.

The afternoon discussion, facilitated by Chris Fetters, involved the development of a POCT Users Group in Ohio.  The following decisions were made by those attending:

Funding:   

• Vendors would be asked to sponsor future meetings

• Possible to have several vendors as appropriate, i.e. one to cover speaker, one to cover lunch

• No fee to attend meetings at this time

Mailing List:  

• Lois Clark from Roche Diagnostics  will maintain a mailing list for the POCT users group.

Location:   

• Good Samaritan North Health Center
  9000 N. Main Street, Dayton, OH

A rotating versus a constant location for future meetings was discussed.  Due to the expressway access and central location for most attendees,  Good Samaritan North Health Center will host future meetings.

Meetings: 

• Quarterly meetings will be held in June, September, and November.

• Meetings will be held during the daytime hours, typically starting no earlier than 9:00 – 9:30 for registration.

• Meeting format will try to include two 1 hour sessions/speakers in the morning.  Lunch should be 90 minutes to allow for user discussions and interaction.  The afternoon session, 1 hour, should conclude by 4:00pm

• The best day of the week to hold meetings is Wednesday

Topics:       

• It may be possible to coordinate the topic with the sponsoring vendor

• Topics should be educational related, not for vendor sales    

• Topics should consider the needs for both large and small hospitals, and clinical applications vs technical information

A list of topics for future meetings was discussed and includes:

• Regulations – JCAHO/CAP

• ACT testing

• Diabetes

• Competencies

• Value analysis

• Performance Improvement

• Information Systems          

• Data Management/Connectivity/CIC                       

• Cardiac markers

The consensus of the group was that the development of a POCT user group will be educational and helpful in many ways.  Names of individuals involved in POCT but not in attendance can be submitted to the mailing list by email to lois.clark@roche.com.
