Meeting Minutes

The Ohio Network POCT Users Group met on August 6, 2003.  The first speaker of the day was Sharon S. Ehrmeyer, Ph.D.  She spoke on “POCT:  Developing and Managing a Top-Notch Program.”

Cathy Hargrove from Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster, OH passed out a POCT Coordinator Salary Review questionnaire in order to assess pay ranges for the position.

Shawn Fisher RN, CCRN, BSBA who is a Clinical Consultant for Biosite, Inc. spoke on “Bedside Testing:  BNP and Cardiac Patients.”  He can provide information from his discussion through e-mail at sfisher@biosite.com .

Denise Kark, MT, MA who is Regional Director of Consulting Services for Biosite, Inc. spoke on the “Economic Impact of POC Testing for the Hospital Laboratory, Doctors, and Patients.”  Denise can be e-mailed at Dkark@biosite.com .  

 

Thank you to the vendors who sponsored the meeting and to Lisa, Jennie, and Roxanne from Miami Valley for coordinating the meeting.

The Cincinnati Group will coordinate the November meeting where there will be User Group Discussion, Nurses and Perfusionists, and Hemacue.

Mercy Medical Center will coordinate the March 2004 meeting.

The meetings will no longer be held at Good Samaritan North due to the parking situation.  A meeting room at Nutter Center may be rented for $100.00 - $125.00.  Watch for further location updates.

Users Group discussion:

  1. Policies for low blood sugars.

    Repeat on another meter and if symptomatic, then treat.

  2. Proficiency testing for HMS.

    Nitrozine paper testing vs. Amnioswab

  3. Infection control issues with nitrozine paper

The Salary survey will be presented at the next meeting.
