POCT in the Management of Antiplatelet Therapy –
Patient Response, Treatment Optimization and Personalized Medicine

Wednesday, April 14, 2010 from 10 AM - 12 Noon PST

Presented by Jackie Coleman, Ph.D., Director of Scientific Affairs, Accumetrics, Inc.

Summary:  Response to antiplatelet medication varies widely in individuals, and the assessment of this response is required to maximize good outcomes.  This presentation will cover the development of antiplatelet medications and explore the inter-individual variability in their efficacy and safety.  Methods of analysis of platelet response to these medications at the point-of-care will be discussed.  Case studies will be presented to demonstrate how these assays improve outcomes through personalized medicine.

Objectives:

  1. To gain an understanding of the variability in patient response to antiplatelet therapy
  2. Be apprised of the latest studies linking platelet reactivity to outcomes
  3. Gain insight into the laboratory methods used for assessing platelet reactivity in response to antiplatelet therapy
  4. Review emerging data showing the clinical utility of assessing response and practical impact on therapy

Continuing Education:  1.0 PACE/ASCLS Credit
