Point of Care Testing Laboratory Manager

The University Health System of San Antonio, Texas is presently seeking a well-qualified Point of Care Testing Laboratory Manager.  Position necessitates a dynamic leader ready for a challenge.    This leadership role is accountable for the management of staff and operations for multiple point of care testing sites.   

University Health System, a Magnet Hospital with 714 beds, is an active Level I Adult Trauma Center and a Level II Pediatric Trauma Center for a 22 county area.  The University Health System partners with the University of Texas Health Science Center Medical School, training medical students, fellows and residents. 

Position Summary/Responsibilities:

The POCT Manager will effectively utilize available resources to ensure provision of timely and accurate point of care test results through methods that are in compliance with requirements established by accreditation standards and by federal/state reimbursement agencies.  Provide technical oversight for all POCT such as evaluation new instrumentation, proper instrument operation, and quality control requirements.   Performs all other functions and duties as necessary.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or an appropriate biological/chemical science from an accredited college or university is required.  Completion of college-level Business Administration courses is preferred.  Successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved) and certification as a Medical Technologist or equivalent by a recognized certifying agency is required.  Minimum five-year work experience in the clinical laboratory is required. Specific experience related to point of care testing is highly preferred.  One year of supervisory experience is preferred.
