POCT Summer Meeting


 

The meeting began with attendee introductions:

  • Ruth Olschewski, Newark Wayne Community Hospital Barbara Roach,Kaleida Health Millard Fillmore Gates

  • Tracy Fontaine-Matteson, U of R Strong Memorial Hospital Clinical Labs

  • Diana McGee, Unity Health/ACM lab,

  • Gretchen Smith, ViaHealth Rochester General Hospital

  • Denise Danzi-Rotolo, Strong Health/Highland Division

  • Cheryl Conkling, Centrex Laboratories.

Old minutes were then reviewed and excepted.

 

Joint Commission Survey-"Trace Method"
Presented by Gretchen Smith

  • Viewed person performing a patient glucose

  • Asked the operator to view the patient's chart

  • Asked to see the operator's competency assessment

  • Is QC reviewed daily by a qualitfied person?

  • Peds and Nursery Units, are the units for the test result recorded with a normal range

  • Color blind test performed on all operator's performing POCT (urine dips)

  • The information that Gretchen presented was very useful for the others who are looking at an inspection in the near future.

 

PT/PTT INR Testing

Regional Business Manager from Hemosense

  • Dee Ann demonstrated the Instrument INRation Prothrombin Time Monitoring System

  • Result in under 2 minutes, using one drop of whole blood from a fingerstick

  • FDA cleared,

  • CLIA Waived

  • Medicare reimbursable

  • Memory stores up to 60 test results

  • On board quality control verfifies each test result.

At this time there is no data management system in place. But Denise stated the company is working on this.
