The
2013 AACC CPOCT Business Meeting and Mixer was
held on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 in Houston.
Division Chair, William Clarke, PhD, Johns
Hopkins Univ. School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD,
welcomed over 100 people to the meeting and gave
a recap of events as well as highlighting the
2014 International Symposium being held next
September in San Diego.
Following a
division business update, Dr. Clarke then
introduced Lifescan's Rick Lebo who presented Karen Jenkins,
MT(ASCP), POCC(AACC), point-of-care programs
coordinator at Emory University Hospital –
Midtown - in Atlanta, GA, with the Lifescan-sponsored 2013 Point-of-Care
Coordinator of the Year Award.
Dr. Clarke then presented the following James H. Nichols,
Ph.D., DABCC, FACB, Professor of Pathology,
Microbiology and Immunology, Medical
Director, Clinical Chemistry, Vanderbilt
University School of Medicine, Nashville,
TN, with the Abbott-sponsored Lifetime Achievement Award created honor
of Herald Waldon Jr.. Dr. Clarke also
presented Michael Jorgensen,
MS, QDx, Inc., Best Abstract Award for
“Potential Utility of a Novel Automated
Point-of-Care Image Based Hematology
Analyzer for the Diagnosis of Malaria as
Part of a Routine CBC”.
He then
introduced Division Chair-Elect Marcia Zucker
who discussed updates to the POCC Certificate
Program which will be launched with new topics
in January 2014.
AfterGlow 2013 Another
Hit with POCCs
and POCT Vendors
The
7th AfterGlow @ AACC event followed the CPOCT
Meeting and Mixer and was attended by more than
200 POCCs and POCT industry personnel.
On the heels of a
successful events in Los Angeles, Atlanta, Anaheim,
Chicago, Washington, DC and in Orlando, the 2013
AfterGlow Event was another smashing success!
Co-hosted by the CPOCT Division, and made possible by POC vendors, AfterGlow
included food,
a cash bar, and dancing!

ballroom with 'Welcome to Texas' theme!
