Biosite Diagnostics Partners with Medical Automation Systems to Enhance LIS Connectivity and Data Management of POC Cardiac Marker Test Results

San Diego, CA – Rapid and effortless transfer of patient test result information from Biosite Diagnostics’ Triage® Cardiac System to laboratory and hospital information systems is now possible with the Triage® Census™ Plus LIS Data Management System.  Currently used in major hospitals nationwide and being implemented in several centers, the system interfaces directly with all the major HIS/LIS systems including Meditech, McKessonHBOC, Cerner®, Sunquest®, Soft Computing, VISTA, and Shared Medical Systems, enabling automatic transfer of key information.

“With the new Triage® Census Plus LIS Data Management System, hospitals can now manage the Triage® Cardiac System more efficiently and cost-effectively, especially in large  hospitals with busy emergency rooms,” said Matthew Posard, Biosite’s marketing director for Triage® Cardiac.

Mary Catherine Parker, POC coordinator, with Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA says, “The Triage® Census Plus LIS Data Management System communicates directly with our Cerner® LIS computer, giving us effective integration of patient information and test results which greatly enhances our ability to track patient data rapidly and maintain accurate billing information. Since we implemented this system in February 2001, our data requirements have been more easily achieved.”

With the new Triage® Census Plus LIS Data Management System, laboratory personnel can rapidly access information about POC cardiac marker testing.  The system enables laboratory personnel to capture and store test results and rapidly access patient information, that can be used to immediately fulfill billing (reimbursement) procedures.  The system’s extensive analysis and reporting tools also help hospitals to comply with laboratory regulatory requirements such as CLIA, CAP and JCAHO.

To enable automatic transfer of test information, Biosite is partnering with Medical Automation Systems, Inc. (MAS, Charlottesville, VA), a pioneer in the development of data management systems for POC testing.  The companies have integrated Biosite’s Triage® Census™ Data Management System with the MAS RALS®-LIS Interfacing System, enabling automatic transfer of Triage® test results from the meter through Census and into the LIS. RALS-LIS provides automated interfacing between any POC data management systems and all major LIS systems.

“We are pleased to expand our relationship with Biosite Diagnostics.  The combination of our products allows us to deliver the most innovative and advanced systems to meet hospital customers’ diagnostic information management and regulatory requirements,” says Greg Menke, chief executive officer and president of Medical Automation Systems. “In addition, the Triage® Census™ Plus LIS Data Management System enables a laboratory manager or POC coordinator to manage quality controls for testing meters located throughout the hospital in various POC locations, such as the ER, Chest Pain Unit, Critical Care Unit or in the laboratory itself.”

The Triage® Census™ Plus LIS Data Management System will be featured as part of Biosite’s activities at the American Association for Clinical Chemistry meeting in Chicago in July.
